                                Lin Wei

     Dr. Lin Wei is an associate professor in the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at South Dakota State University (SDSU). Dr. Wei and his research team have devoted themselves to the research and education of Agricultural Engineering, Biomass Conversion and Bioenergy, Food Processing, and Food Safety. Their research aims to improve the productivity, profitability, and sustainability of agriculture, food production, and bio-product development while reducing environmental impacts to move forward to agriculture digitalization era. The research topics include, but not limited to:

  • Development and application innovative AI and biosensor technologies to improve precision agriculture, food processing, and food safety.

  • Development and applications of smart fertilizers in precision agriculture.

  • Development and application of efficient cold-plasma technologies to improve food processing quality and safety.

  • Development and application of biopolymer-based nano-composites for smart packaging.

  • Development and application of biomass pretreatment, gasification, pyrolysis, torrefaction, and hydrothermal liquefaction technologies for advanced biofuels and bio-product production.

  • Development and applications of effective catalyst systems in bio-refinery industries.

 

     Dr. Wei and his team intend to promote agriculture, food, and bio-refinery industries ​by integrating cutting-edge research activities into college education. They have been exploring national and international collaborations for research, teaching, and learning to train next generation workforces and professionals and help SDSU academic programs staying at the forefront of sciences and technologies while meeting today's needs.
